The aptly named 2016 MINI Cooper Convertible is the version of the small economy car that can covert between enclosed and open-air mode. First manufactured by the British Motor Corporation for during the latter half of the 20th century, the MINI nameplate was assumed and modernized for public consumption by BMW—and it shows with the 2016 model year. The new Cooper Convertible is available in three trims: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works.
Performance
The 2016 MINI Convertible is powered by a 1.6-liter 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine, although its output differs according to trim. Horsepower is 121 on the Cooper, 181 on the Cooper S, and 201 on the John Cooper Works. Plus, the engine on the S and John Cooper is turbocharged. Although the Convertible is hitched to a 6-speed manual transmission, you have the option of switching it with a 6-speed automatic one, as well as paddle shifters to simulate a manual gearbox. The Cooper and Cooper S use a front-wheel drivetrain, with the option of going with the all-wheel drive on the later; the John Cooper Works trim is the only one with a standard all-wheel drivetrain. Depending on the trim and powertrain layout, the MINI Convertible fuel economy has yet to be confirmed, but we can expect it to be in the similar range as other models with around 26 mpg city / 35 mpg highway.

Interior
Designed as a two-door vehicle, the 2016 MINI Convertible is large enough to accommodate up to five people. And if it's just you and the front passenger, you can convert the rear seats into cargo space by bending them forward. Leather wrapping of the steering wheel is standard, and you have the choice of adding leather upholstery and heating capacity on the front seats.

Front impact airbags, a driver's knee airbag, front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and roof-mounted side curtain airbags are present on the 2016 MINI Convertible for protection in the event of an auto crash. Also on the Convertible are electronic vehicle stability, traction control, anti-lock braking system with brake assist, and engine immobilizer.
