Already close to two decades into its revival in the modern automobile era as a cool subcompact car, the MINI now has a rearview camera with parking sensors as a standard feature for the 2018 model year. Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine that blurts out 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard and helps produce a 0-60 mph time of 8.3 seconds. There is the option, though, to swap it with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which shaves off a tenth of a second from the vehicle’s 0-60 mph time. Included with the powertrain are three driving modes (i.e., Sport Mode, Green Mode, and Mid mode) for varying feel between sporty and fuel-efficient driving. A two-door car, the 2018 MINI Cooper Convertible seats up to four people: two in the front, two in the back. Cargo volume is measured at 7.6 cubic feet. All seats are dressed in Carbon Black leatherette, with the front seats having 6-way adjustability. Facing the driver is a leather sport steering wheel. Upgrades include leather upholstery, front-seat heating ability, sports-style seats, and textured detail on the lower dash and door armrests that are available in Glowing Red, Satellite Grey, and Dark Truffle. For comfort and convenience, the 2018 Cooper Convertible has features such as automatic climate control, six-speaker audio, a 6.5-inch screen, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, smartphone integration, and a USB data port for playing audio files from your mobile device. Options include SiriusXM® satellite radio, proximity key entry, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, navigation with real-time traffic, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, a garage-door opener, a Comfort Access System (which allows you unlock the doors by pressing a door-handle button), and a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon® premium sound system. In addition to the aforementioned rearview camera and parking sensors, the 2018 MINI Cooper Convertible has dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and dual roof-mounted side-curtain airbags for restraint and cushioning when in a collision. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, and an alarm to beef up its theft-deterrent system.
