They are fun to look at and drive, compact but nonetheless enough room for customization. With the recent competition in the minicar market, they are no longer mini, as they pack with them many features and even provide options for both coupe and hardtop models. These cars are smaller and economical for those who just won't settle for dullness. With easy customization, there are millions of ways in which to customize a mini car, from roof color, upholstery, wheel color and interior lighting mood. They are high for social drives to outings, clubs, shopping, etc. one of the prominent crossovers for a more prominent audience is the 2018 MINI Countryman, with a new plug-in hybrid. It's similar rival is the BMW X1.
Performance
The 2018 MINI Countryman comes with a turbocharged 1.5L/91 engine generating 134 horsepower at 4400 RPM. With an intercooled turbo Premium Unleaded I-3 and a gasoline direct injection, the MINI provides excellent fuel economy at 34 mpg highway consumption, 24mpg city consumption and 28 miles to the gallon, combined city, and highway usage*. The MINI provides a Front Wheel Drive Train delivering 162 net torque at 1250 RPM for its Sports Utility body style. On the other hand, the 2018 BMW X1 features a 2L/122 displacement engine that generates 228 net horsepower at 5000 RPM and a net torque of 258. The 2018 X1, however, provides a lower fuel efficiency than the MINI with 23, 32 and 26 MPG for city, highway and combined usage respectively. Although the BMW has a more powerful engine, the 2018 MINI is better considering its fuel economy and efficiency.
Style
The 2018 countryman has striking looks with a taller stance, more significant proportions, and blockier lights. It also gets creases that are absent in the X1, with a different grill together with lower bumpers front and rear. The design is a modified styling for the autos in this category, though it still maintains the identity of the mini car. Both the exterior and interior are above average including more pronounced shoulders, taller ride height, and more proportionate plastic cladding. It has a tidy rear side with a large nameplate. On the inside, the car has a a large 6.5 in infotainment screen at the center that is upgradeable to 8.8 inches. With its signature oval designs, MINI is more spectacular to behold than the pricier BMW X1.
Comfort
The Mini Countryman is a right family car, with excellent space to carry up to 4 adults. The auto also delivers plenty of room for cargo carriage. The car has good rear seats with more legroom than most of its competitors, owing to the 105.1-inch wheelbase. The dual panel sunroof offers some good vertical room, with the ability to accommodate tallest adults comfortably. The seats of the Countryman are friendly for front sitting, with thigh bolstering and bottoms that are not as flat, which is a demerit of the BMW X1.
