2018 MINI Hardtop 4 Door vs 2018 MINI Hardtop 2 Door
Serving Wappingers Falls, Poughkeepsie, and Milton, NY
These days, if you’re looking for a car best suited for navigating dense areas or on the low side of fuel consumption, you can barely do better than getting a MINI. A tiny, peppy car, the MINI car provides cool styling and spirited driving dynamics. Even better, the Hardtop is the most affordable member of the MINI line-up, thus making it an ideal choice for budget- or economy-minded customers. You have the choice between a two-door (2 Door) and a four-door (4 Door) body style. Other than the difference in number of doors, as well as the availability of trims (Cooper and Cooper S trims are available on both body styles, with John Cooper Works added on the 2 Door), the 2 Door and 4 Door essentially share the same range of features and components.
Performance
The 2018 MINI Hardtop’s Cooper trim is powered by a 1.5-liter twin-turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, which produces 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. On the Cooper S trim, the engine is upgraded to a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The John Cooper Works trim, which is exclusive to the 2 Door, is powered by a version of the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that is tweaked to produce 228 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is typically joined with a 6-speed manual transmission on the Cooper and Cooper S. However, if you go with the Cooper S, you can choose a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters instead; this gearbox is standard on the John Cooper Works trim. Depending on body style and powertrain configuration, the 2018 MINI Hardtop can go from 0 to 60 mph in as fast as 6.1 seconds.
Appearance
Like its predecessors, the 2018 MINI Hardtop—as a member of the third production cycle of the MINI marquee’s reincarnation—has a beetle-shaped wagon exterior style, with sharp edges at the roof balanced with the circular headlamps and slopes of the front end. Power heated side mirrors and 15-inch silver-finish alloy wheels are standard. Upgrading to the Cooper S adds a spoiler at the back for improved aerodynamic performance, front fog lights for more penetrating illumination, and larger, 16-inch silver alloy wheels. Exclusive to the John Cooper Works 2 Door trim are white side-body turn signals (in place of amber ones), brighter and longer-lasting LED headlamps, and 17-inch silver alloy wheels.
Safety
For restraint and cushioning in the event of a car crash, the 2018 MINI Hardtop has eight airbags. Two of them face the driver and front passenger for front impact, while two more are at the knees for lower-body protection. A pair of airbags are installed on the front seats for side impact, and two side curtains are installed on the ceiling for head protection of all occupants. Performance Control are on all vehicles for adjusting driving dynamics to boost control and responsiveness.
